Our study

EARLY Study

Investigating early signs and developmental course of
impairments in personality functioning in young people

Study procedure

This study aims to understand the development of personality in adolescence.

You will receive a first set of online questionnaires briefly after your registration and a second one three years later. If you would start your participation now, in 2025, we would contact you again in 2028. That means you will have two online questionnaire sessions throughout the 3 year duration of the study. Each session will take approximately 45 minutes, which means the study will take you two times 45 minutes in total. The questionnaires will delve into your way of thinking and behaving in everyday situations. In addition, you will be asked some questions about yourself.

To participate, you must be at least 11 years old. As part of your own participation, your parents will also be asked to complete some questionnaires about you and themselves. Your participation is independent of that of your parents, which means that you can take part even if your parents do not.

We understand how busy life can get, so we've made it as easy as possible for you to participate. You can complete the questionnaires from the comfort of your own home. Once you've registered, we will send you a link via e-mail to access the online questionnaires. Each session should take around 45 minutes to complete, so you can fit it in whenever it's convenient for you.

Your participation is entirely voluntary. You are allowed to take a step back from the study whenever you need. We want this to be a positive experience for you.

By joining our study, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of personality development. Your insights will help us identify key factors that shape personality over time, leading to better support and interventions for children and families in the future.

The following visual representation is to help you better understand the study design. Whereas the boxes represent the two online questionnaire sessions, the arrow represents the 3-year interval between sessions.
